Strengthen Your Immune System - Before and During an Infection

Dear patients,

In times of uncertainty and fear, I want to shift your focus toward healing and supportive topics. What can we do to strengthen our immune system in advance—and what tools can help when we're already sick? Find out below.

Prevention

Vitamin D
Get outside daily and take Vitamin D, especially during darker months. Ideally, have your level tested—it should be in the high-normal range.

Fresh Air
Even a 10-minute walk can refresh the lungs and boost your immune system.

Contrast Showers
A great way to train the immune system. Start with arms and legs, from the extremities toward the heart. Increase over time as tolerated.

Going barefoot in the morning dew and then warming your feet is both fun and immune-strengthening.

Black cumin oil is our favorite remedy—especially for the lungs. Take regularly or drink as a “tea” (recipe in my book “Der Immuncode”). Adults: 3×2 capsules or 3×1 tsp. Children: reduced dosage.

Warm lung compresses with olive oil help, especially for lung weakness.

Liver compresses also support detox and healing.

These rituals also help you calm down and regulate your nervous system.

Restore your body's ability to regulate by prioritizing joy and daily pleasures. Avoid stressful conversations and media; instead, fill your day with nourishing content, activities, and meaningful rituals.

Diffuse essential oils like geranium, lemon, clove, and orange to purify the air and uplift your mood. Scientific studies have shown a reduced microbial load on surfaces when essential oils are diffused regularly.

Rhythm is essential. The body, like nature, functions in rhythm. Establish morning and evening routines. For example, gold-based remedies in the morning, silver in the evening. Calcium in the morning, magnesium at night. Create your own rhythm and ask us for guidance.

For deep immune assessment, we recommend immune status testing via blood analysis. This helps detect weaknesses and enables us to tailor therapy with unspecific immune treatments to bring your immune system back to optimal performance.

Many patients also benefit from an infusion program in autumn. We offer 5-10 sessions with vitamins, trace elements, and optionally ozone therapy—an excellent immune booster. We're happy to advise you if this is right for you.

What to Do When You're Sick?

Rest and Hydrate
It can't be emphasized enough: sleep, sweat, drink, and sleep again. Rest is key.

Increase fluid intake to over 3 liters—water, tea, broths. Fever and sweating increase fluid loss more than we realize.

Electrolytes: Homemade chicken broth is a proven remedy. Salt it well. It nourishes deeply and strengthens. If you're too weak to cook, ask a neighbor—it also nurtures a sense of connection, which is healing in itself.

Essential oils can be used as steam or for skin applications. They absorb well and work systemically. Use with carrier oil or get pre-made blends from a pharmacy.

Homeopathy
Homeopathy can help in acute cases. D-potencies can be used for self-treatment. Better yet, call your trusted homeopath early. Adjust frequency and remedies as needed.

Complex homeopathy (blended remedies) is also effective and convenient.

There are specific blends for viral infections—contact us for recommendations.

We've had great success with a special cough formula in our practice. It's also suitable for children, especially with nighttime dry coughs.

Phytotherapy—time-tested and powerful.

Baikal skullcap is highly effective against viruses. See “Pflanzliche Virenkiller” by Buhner (Herbapress Verlag).

Nasturtium, horseradish, and ginger are powerful immune boosters too.

You have tools, paths, and options—and human connection helps too. Let's not forget: our immune system is powerful. It's here to protect, heal, and restore. Choose beauty and joy every day to support it—within yourself and with others.

Wishing you the very best health,

Yours, Dr. Dorothea Schleicher-Brückl
